Jerry Supiran

Jerry Supiran is a former child star best known for his role as Jamie Lawson on the mid-late 1980s syndicated sitcom, Small Wonder. Anyone who was a pre-teen during the mid-late 1980s probably watched Small Wonder from time to time. I personally did not have cable TV until I got to college, so I was at the mercy of whatever reruns or TV shows were available on the broadcast TV channels.

Small Wonder was one of the strangest TV shows ever created. A surprise hit in syndication, the show centered on the Lawson family. Jamie Lawson's parents on the show were Ted and Joan Lawson, played by Dick Christie and Marla Pennington, respectively. Ted Lawson worked as an engineer/inventor for United Robotronics, working on a robot for assisting handicapped children. He invented the robot called Voice Input Child Identicant ("V.I.C.I.," pronounced "Vicki"), an android the looked like a 10-year-old girl. (Vickie was played by Tiffany Brissette.) The Lawson family pretended that Vicki was the family's adopted daughter.

The show was generally focused on Vicki and her interactions with Jamie and other kids. Supiran's character, Jamie, was kind of annoying and very smarmy and appeared to be somewhat slimy. He seemed like the type of kid who couldn't be trusted. Apparently Supiran's character seemed like this because in real life, Supiran was a bit of a rascal.

The executive producer of Small Wonder, Howard Leeds, said the following about Supiran:

"Jerry Supiran was a mischievous tyke who bugged the crew but was a good little actor."

Supiran acted on Small Wonder from 1985 until its cancellation in 1988. Supiran was actually a fairly successful child and acted in many other roles during the 1980s. He had guest starring roles in several noted sitcoms of the era such as Little House on the Prairie, Mr. Belvedere, Newhart, and Archie Bunker's Place. He also had roles in the motion picture Uncommon Valor and in various TV movies such as Policewoman Centerfold and Love Thy Neighbor.

Despite his success during the 1980s, Supiran has not had even a single acting role since the cancellation of Small Wonder in 1988. I've searched long and hard to find recent info of Supiran to find out what he has been up to. Unfortunately, most of what I found are merely unverified rumors. According to one rumor, Supiran hates the Small Wonder show and refuses to even talk about it and has moved to New England where he does graphic design for a major food retailer. There are other rumors that he has been a roadie for the band Alice in Chains, was actually Billy Corgan from the rock band Smashing Pumpkins, or that he encountered financial difficulties and now works at a Taco Bell somewhere in California (one can only wonder if he's ever run into fellow washed-up celebrity Dustin Diamond at the same Taco Bell).

Regardless of what he's doing right now, there should be no doubt that Jerry Supiran one washed-up celebrity!

*** Update - May 20, 2009 ***

Jerry Supiran seems like a decent guy and recently contacted me and sent me a blurb to let me know what he's been doing. He mentioned that rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated that that he is very much alive. He also mentioned that he quit acting in 1987 because he wanted to go back to school. Jerry has had several different jobs over the years. Three years ago he broke his back when he was thrown from a racehorse at a ranch that he was managing. Jerry was also a chef at an upscale Mediterranea restaurant in California for awhile.

Jerry says that he is in love with a girl named Kelly Boland. He also loves to golf and if anyone really wants to find him, they should look for him on a golf course. He also mentioned that he does not sing in the Smashing Pumpkins, although he wishes that he could sing like the lead singer, Billy Corgan.

Jerry says that someone stole his identity twice and ruined his credit rating. Jerry spends his free time helping charitable causes and playing with his niece and nephew, Brody and Kelsey.

Jerry Supiran has a Twitter account. Jerry also sent me this recent picture of himself:

*** Update - May 31, 2012 ***

Jerry is apparently homeless and living under a bridge in central California.  He claims to be broke as a result of various incidences - when he was 18 years old a stripper stole his trust fund and that one of his advisers stole $500,000 from him.  Jerry worked at steakhouses for much of the past 15 years until he was laid off in 2010 from a restaurant in Henderson, NV and has been unable to find work since then.

Jerry told the National Inquirer,

I had to move back to central California, where my brother lives with his family, and while he helps me with hot meals and a shower, he doesn't have the room for me to stay there. So I either sleep at the homeless shelter I volunteer at, or under a local bridge.

Here is a photo of Jerry living on the streets that was published by the National Inquirer:

*** Update - August 19, 2013 ***

TMZ tracked down Jerry Supiran a few months ago and broadcast a video.  [Edit - unfortunately, this video has been deleted.]

You should take this down. Jerry is dead. He died in 1994. So what if he didn't have another acting gig after 'Small Wonder' was cancelled. He probably was set and wanted to leave acting....and concentrate on his health.

I don't think Jerry Supiran is dead. I certainly cannot find any articles mentioning that he died other than his Wikipedia entry which was edited a few days ago by an anonymous user without any corroborating evidence.

people seem to believe what they want regardless of any thing else. being that I am his girlfriend I can tell you that he is very much alive.
he does love gambling. he loves poker. he loves golf and horse racing.he is not religious so whoever said he loves the lord doesnt know what their talking about. we have been to most of the sites that had him as dead, and gotten them to remove the dead part. none of that was true. there is a youtube video called "life after wonder"--thats not him!! that is just some guy making fun of him. Also, a guest star--not a main character-just a guest star from small wonder died in 94 and anthony his brother died in 2004. but jerry is very much alive and happy. he is not washed up. he simply does not want to act anymore. its funny for someone who doesnt act to wonder:"if you were rich and famous why would you give that up." But you see he just doesnt want to act anymore.
and the tear drop tattoo is NOT a teardrop. Its a music note, but then he tried to change it by himself and it sort of looks like a box with a music note in it..he cant get it removed because its too close to his eye. he covers it up sometimes and sometimes just wears it. its fine. he looks great to me so I dont care. between the both of us we have so many tattoos anyway.

Jerry is alive and well (sorta). He currently resides in Arizona where he has been seeking professional help with his ocd disorder. This is no laughing matter. My sister who works for the d.a.'s office heard about him working a plea deal about abusing a cat. Apparently,he refuses to seek vetinary help for his animals and abuse charges have been filed.Rumor has it in town (have to say rumor because sister can lose her job) that he recieves small royalty checks from Small Wonder reruns, which is the top rated syndicted show in Taiwan.I did some research through the S.A.G.(screen actors guild) heard he has a small role in the upcoming film expendables, playing a computer programmer, which im sure will be edited out. I am a friend of Jerry's cousin, Robert. (yeah I know what you are thinking) Robert used to live in NorCal and do Rocky Horror Picute show with me (Jerry, you know this is true, so YOU know I am on the up & up) Jerry is alive & well, it was his brother who died in '04, during the court trial where jerry was suing him for defamation of character. There was also another cast member who died in '94.

jerry works @ jobs till he can't take the jokes anymore, then goes on to the next one.

That is NOT his MySpace, that is the one that he was suing his brother over. The lawsuit was the basis for a law that says you can't start a website bashing someone, or defaming their character...

LOL these comments and beliefs are hilarious! I do believe this is a real picture of Jerry. Look at his mouth, it's exactly the same. Hey all.
I've been reading the comments on here and my family and I find it very funny that people have claimed Jerry as dead and that some are disbelieving that the man posting isn't Jerry. My family and I went out tonight and met a very nice man named Jerry, who was our waiter for this evening, and was telling us who he really was and about this site. He looks exactly the same...Well, with facial hair.We should have asked for his autograph or something :/ Maybe we'll see him next time we go in.

I grew up watching this show 'Small Wonder'. Not bad for the 80's (definitely better than all the glitzy, empty shows of today) but it's sad how many of the "child stars" fail to translate their initial fame into mainstream glory. At least in this case, the show and the cast will remain forever young.

He is far from dead! He sat in the same room I did at the st rose de Lima hospital in Henderson Nevada (las Vegas) and he said something was wrong with his finger, an unexplainable electric shock pain, and he mentiontioned that he couldn't get insurance to go to a hand specialist cause a pre exsisting back condition and proceeded to tell the nurse about how life was better when he was a child star in the 80's. More specifically in the show small wonder where he played the brother... So he is forsure alive and in Vegas!

Jerry, You are awesome.
Lindsey Lohan needs your help. You are her only hope, considering both of you have the same D.O.C (drug of choice).
She wants to know how you finally got clean.
Oh, and to the woman that claimed Jerry was her waiter (she ordered lemonade): You are heartless! To think a famous celebrity could fall so low... What some of you don't seem to understand is that Hollywood would never let one of their own become obscure or irrelevant. For god's sake, what do you think the S.A.G. (screen actors guild) is for.
You see, S.A.G & A.F.T.R.A. set up clandestine apartment complexes in the San Fernando Valley for actors who refuse to, or cannot get, further work in the Industry. After a certain period of inactivity residency is mandated. He/she is given the choice of seven geographic locales (based on availability). The actor makes this promise in writing upon joining the Guild.
Fearing fans may look elsewhere for entertainment if their screen idols turned out to be "regular people," studio execs opted for a quick-fix. Plans to insure Hollywood never lacks luster were implemented shortly after Ronald Reagan was elected governor of California.
The "homes" I speak of are but one small slice of what industry insiders know of as Hollywood's Magic Pie.

Here is the web page of one such home:

I had the honor to meet Mr.Supiran today.I live in Californa and this afternoon I stopped by a taco bell drive thru and recieved the wrong order. As I went inside and asked for a manager a very kind man came to the register, introduced himself as the shift manager and was apologetic and made my order right.
I had this odd feeling that I knew him and perhaps he was a old classmate. So I asked him"Did we go to school together?"

The gentleman laughed and said No and that he gets that a lot. I said"But I do know you!? Dont I?"

He then brought up an american tv show known as small wonder and then it hit me, it was Jerry Supiran.(To be honest I didnt know his real name until he told me).

I came online looking up more information on him and found this website. He seems like a hardworking guy trying to make a few bucks.

I didnt think it was fair to ask him why he was working at taco bell after being in the hollywood spotlight for so many years though I was tempted.

If anyone here has a question for him I would be happy to bring it up next time I go in.

Please also respect the fact that I will not give his store location away as Im sure he doesnt want to be pestered by fans asking for autographs.

What's amazing is that someone cares so much for him that they insist on continually posting lies about him being: a drug addict, dead, gay... etc...

Whatever happenend to Vicki??? I watched the first 7 episodes online today!!!

Actually I thought that the show was a bit on the dumb side however I did like his wisecracking persona. It would seem that something went amiss judging for the current photo of him. What happened to his money his place looks terrible and the costume he choose to dawn is even sadder. The man looks really unhappy. Hollywood must of chewed him up and spit him out in a cruel way. I wonder why he did not continue his career in acting, I would bet he would of made it big. Whatever happened God Bless him and I hope the best for him.

OMG! he's totally not dead, I had the worst movie watching experience EVER with him, in 1998 we saw Titanic, and he didnt shut up through the whole movie, he has no concept of personal space, not to mention his bleeched out dreds were completley weird.
He kept poking me and telling me that almost every shot was digital. My friend who was with us left 20 minuets into the movie because he couldnt stand him anymore. (:

I was a recurring extra on "Small Wonder" as a kid, and Jerry (& to a lesser extent his younger brother Ricky) and I were friends for a few years around that time (1986-88, or so). SW was not brilliant, undying cinema, but it was a great deal of fun and it's nice to see that so many people remember it fondly. Jerry, I'm glad to hear you're still around, and, FYI, the sweet little white poodle your mom gave to my mom lived to a happy old age. -JF

It's great to see that someone other than myself remembers this great show. I just recently purchased season 1 and it brought back so many memories. This show does not get the credit it deserves. It held its ground against other top-notched sitcoms such as Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, etc. From the capturing theme song to the hilarity of the cast's signature catch phrases and V.I.C.I.'s unforgettable voice, this show was one of the greatest sitcoms for its time.

It's great to see that someone other than myself remembers this show. This was one of the 80's greatest sitcoms. It never received the recognition it deserved. It held its ground in the ratings competing with the likes of Diff'rent Strokes, The Facts of life, Alf, etc. From the unforgettable theme song to the hilarity of the cast to V.I.C.I.'s mono-toned voice...this show was epic for its time. At 31 years of age I've shared this show with my children and they love it! When a show can transcend time and still be enjoyed it says how great of a job they did with it. I hope for a reunion show!!!

I loved small wonder and all things 80's!

I worked with jerry at round table in ventura..his resignation was somewhat dramatic...liked to sing guns and roses...had a gun tattooed on one arm, and roses on the other...other than his taste in music, nice guy.

I was Jerry's neighbor for a short time in 2010 to Jan 2011. So,he's not dead. He's still good looking, and very pleasant to be around.I am happy my boys got to spend time with him, and wish we'd known him longer.I asked him the question"Why would you quit acting when it was going so well for you?" But many of us quit things for different reasons through our lives, and we don't owe anybody any explanations. Life often changes course. Jerry, hope you are still doing well and loving life. By the way, the cats are doing well, and have us well trained!

Anonymous said...

First of all, HE IS NOT DEAD! So "Stitch" you are DEAD WRONG! My friends and I just ran into him on Sunday at the Avila Beach Pier, here in California....he's a very nice guy! His mom died, but he is very much alive and has children and has no problems talking about the show in fact he told us about it, we didn't recognize him from the show, as he's considerably older (gray hair), he had a King's Jersey on, and a nicely trimmed goatee...oh and he showed us pictures of his 18 year old child....detailed enough?? He's local in this area, has been for many years.

Man ! When are the REST of us going to get our shot at making a couple million bucks ? Aren't we ALL entitled to our 15 minutes of fame and a few million bucks at least ONCE? lol

Some folks are so very lucky and yet end up like the rest of us. Hardworking everyday Joe's.

Except we don't have a fan base so we have to learn to make it all alone.

Anyway, good luck to Jerry, to me and everyone.

Jerry saved my life a few years ago. He was taking my order at Taco Bell and I kept berating him that he was typing the order into the register too slowly (I had no idea who he was at this point) and he kept profusely apologizing and telling me how many free guacamole steak burritos i was going to get because he kept typing slowly into the register.

Well, those guacamole steak burritos nourished me for a good 3 years indirectly because I ended up in ICU from food poisoning and remained in a coma with an IV drip feeding me all the nutrients I needed.

I'm currently living off a $20,000,000 settlement I reached with Taco Bell for me to not publicize the guacamole steak burrito incident (notice how they don't sell it anymore?) and to not publicize an actor working at their restaurant. The confidentiality agreement ended on 6/1/2012 so now I'm telling all.

My supermodel wife and I thank you Jerry!

Love,

Peach Farkington

Jerry and Kelly Boland (who also goes by Kelly Poisoncupcake I just learned) is not his girlfriend any longer but they still communicate as of June 2012. She talked to him a great deal in Sept 2011 and Oct 2011 and then again in march 2012 and April 2012. He is homeless but volunteering at a homeless shelter also so while is receiving help he is giving help back.

Jerry is broke because only one person bought the Small Wonder DVDs and uploaded them to YouTube, where we all watch them for free. If the stripper stole all of his money, what stopped him from taking out student loans and still going to college? I think he was just expecting things to be handed to him. When will my shot at big money come? I'm tired of working.

For all you peole saying he is dead, well he,s not we beg for money until we have enough money for a few bottles of thunderbird, we slam them down and go to the library to use the internet since our bridge don't pick up wifi.

Jerry died today after coming out of the closet, while he was working at a Taco Bell which was, coincidentally under a bridge, in Nevada. He is survived by his buddies, Flea, Rocco and Nailz.

Condolences can be spray painted on the bridge. Visitation daily until sundown - they're just leaving the corpse there.

Jerry Supiran, I hope you do read these blogs. I met you once when you were a child. I was working part time at a sees candy shop and you came in shortly before closing. I tried to be nice to you but you were so pompous, smug and extremely rude. I was so disappointed I stopped allowing my children to watch your show. I hope life has taught you lessons that made you become a more humble human being.

I met Jerry at an Ihop in Laughlin, NV last month. He spilled my juice when I was there and he forgot my pancakes, to his credit they were really busy and he was trying his best. I went to shake his hand when I left and passed off a 20 and a nude picture of myself with my number. I got a call last night but only heard heavy breathing, I can only assume it's him.

For once and for all Jerry Supiran is NOT employed at a Taco Bell. He's an independent contractor and sweeps up the squeezed-out mild sauce packets in the parking lot. No child actors are allowed inside Taco Bells let alone be employed by one.

This is probably his real facebook id. I don't know if people are lying or why they're lying. But it felt really good to see him in good shape & not in homeless-shape. I guess, worthless & loser people find joy in day-dreaming about rich celebrities getting poor or washed up. Shameful!

Anonymous said...

Gotta give the guy credit for actually taking the time to respond to a few of these posts, even rolling along with the trolls. Hollywood certainly isn't known to be exactly friendly to those at the bottom of the food chain, and I'm not really surprised that some distance themselves completely from the industry, especially if they weren't big-name players to begin with. You sound like a decent guy, Jerry. Hope you find your niche in life. Things often have a funny way of working out in the end.

David Thompson said...

I enjoyed his acting and wish him the best.

Unknown said...

You should be ashamed of this page you made. No actor is ever washed up. Some fall on hard times, some chose not to act, back then kid actors got taken for. There money never went to them, but instead to greedy parents and managers. He's alive, and weather he acts or works at a 9 to 5 job at least he's living. So sad adults job shame, body shame. Grow up and I pray all of you that shame people don't have kids or fall on hard times or anyone you know. This day in age nothing is a Guarantee in life, you could be on top of the world one minute the the next at rock bottom. Jerry it was awesome coming home and seeing your shows loved you then and I hope you make a big comeback, if not hope you are enjoying life.
