Dustin Diamond (2008 Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp Appearance - Episode IV)

Episode IV - March 30, 2008

The fourth episode of Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp began with seven of the eight of the show's contestants riding on a bus out to the boot camp designed by drill instructor Harvey Walden. Not surprisingly, the one missing contestant was Dustin Diamond, the focus of this episode recap.

In the opening scene, the contestants made light of Brian Dunkleman's rude behavior during the previous episode while driving to the boot camp. Diamond was not yet much of a topic of conversation at this point in the episode, although Tina Yothers did say, "I want to know where our team captain is."

After the bus arrived at the boot camp, the contestants exited through the door on the back of the bus and lined up for instructions from drill sergeant Harvey Walden, IV. Brian Dunkleman immediately apologized to Harvey for his behavior in the previous episode and Harvey accepted Dunkleman’s apology.

When Harvey noticed that Diamond was missing, he said,

"Red team - holy freaking shit! It looks like you're one man down, and it is your lazy ass freaking captain. Imagine that ... AWOL.
...
No matter what's going on at home, your priority to yourself and to your doggone team is to show up right here.
...
Don't let his ass pull you all down. I would not let that happen."

Willie Aames was upset that Diamond was missing and mentioned the following in a candid interview: "We can't find a good reason for Dustin not to be there. If he's not loyal to the show, at least be loyal to your team. I was pretty ticked off."

Tina Yothers also chimed in, saying "Dustin not showing up is a big fuck you to everybody. I mean we're all here. This is a job and there's nothing worse than a quitter."

A.J. Benza, a member of the blue team, told Diamond's red team that Diamond was their dead weight, and Aames agreed with him.

All of the contestants then got back on the bus for a trip out to an oceanside beach for the next team challenge. During the bus ride, the contestants joked about Diamond and speculated that his lazy butt would show up after the physical challenge.

Tina Yothers called Diamond and said, "Dustin, where the hell are you?" Yothers said that Diamond claimed he couldn't make it because of bad weather in Wisconsin and that he couldn't get on another flight. Toccara Jones called a weather service to determine the weather conditions in Wisconsin and discovered that there were no weather-related airplane delays in the Milwaukee airport near where Diamond lives.

About Diamond's excuse, Willie Aames said, "The more we dug into it, the more we found out that really nothing happened. And that pissed me off."

A.J. Benza expressed his disgust of Diamond, saying, "This is right up his alley. It is. I love the kid but this is up his alley. This is bullshit. He didn't show up. I don't care what the excuse is. Dustin fucked up. He's not here and that's bad."

Finally, the bus arrived at the beach and were given instructions by Harvey and Ant. Each team had to navigate an obstacle course on the beach and pick up a 150-lb dummy that was supposed to represent a fallen teammate and carry the dummy back to the starting line. Each team member had to wear fins on their feet, a wet suit, a water tank, and a weight belt. To increase the difficulty of the challenge, Harvey was standing behind a water cannon (i.e., a powerful water hose) near where the dummy was situated and sprayed high pressure water onto the team members.

Regarding the challenge, Yothers said, "The point of the challenge was we had to go and rescue out dying teammate, and unfortunately we had Dustin in the back of our head and we didn't want to rescue him. Ha ha."

Diamond's red team lost the challenge to the blue team. Toccara was impressive and quickly got down near the location where her team's dummy was located. Toccara and Yothers had to carry their dummy back to the starting line by themselves because Aames injured his knee and was moving as slow as molasses.

After losing the challenge, Aames was voted as his team's "dead weight" and was ordered to clear the obstacles from the beach. Toccara and Yothers helped out the gimpy Aames, earning Harvey's respect in the process.

Next, the contestants returned to the boot camp for a Krav Maga (hand-to-hand combat) fighting instruction. At one point during the instruction, somebody dressed in black attacked Toccara from behind. In an impressive display of strength, Toccara picked up the assailant and body slammed him onto a mat. One can only imagine what Toccara would have done to Diamond if he had shown up at that moment - I'm guessing that thrown him around like a rag doll and given him a pile driver onto the ground.

Next, the contestants were provided with dinner in the mess hall. Not surprisingly, everyone started ragging on Diamond. The following exchange took place at the dinner table:

A.J.: [The Krav Maga] instructor would have kicked [Diamond's] ass.

Yothers: If Dustin comes back, we all should have like a one-on-one in the ring with him.

A.J.: Then let's do it. I think he blew it by doing this. Dustin fucked up. But if he comes back, what's to gain? Harvey's gonna rip him three assholes. His team is on his back. There's not going to be jokes flying around like there used to be. He fucked up ... You can't pull up lame every challenge and sit there and be hurt every time."

After dinner, Yothers was interviewed and said, "I have no idea what Dustin's plan is. If he had showed up halfway through the day, he would have saved some face." In a separate interview, Toccara said, "Even when Dustin is here, it's not like 'Oh thank goodness. Dustin's here, we have a shot now,' but the least you could do is go to the airport and see when the next flight is."

In the next event, each contestant had to climb the tower that was used in the obstacle course from the first episode. At the top of the tower were respective dog tags for each contestant. Six of the seven contestants successfully retrieved their dog tags. The only one unable to reach the top was Sommore, who gave her best effort but was instructed to stop by Harvey after spending over 50 minutes trying to climb to the top.

Finally, the contestants returned to the camp for the weigh-in ceremony. The following exchange took place:

"Ant: Have any of you heard from Dustin?

Yothers and Aames: No.

Ant: You know, last week when Dustin kept punking out, you defended him. so how are you guys feeling about his decision to not be here?

Toccara: It's not like when he's here it's like, 'Oh our savior is here. We have a great chance because Dustin's here.' But at the same time, we need him for the weigh-in ceremony. And we're a team and we can't win if we don't have our second part. We need that.

Aames: It just smacks of disrespect.

Yothers: Obviously, my biggest disappointment is that I crossed Harvey's opinion and trusted Dustin, who could have had a second chance here - that's more of a disappointment to me personally.

A.J.: He screwed his team. You at least have to call your team and say, 'Guys, I'm sorry, there's a big screw up, but just hang in there.' You can't say nothing.
...
Yothers: There's really no excuse. I mean, Brian [Dunkleman] left his four-day-old marriage. I've got my two-month-old baby at home. We all have our lives. There's nothing that could be more important in Dustin's life to keep him from being here.
"

Ant then asked all of the contestants whether Diamond should be allowed to return to the show. Six of the contestants, including everyone on his red team, voted "No." The only one who thought that Diamond should be allowed to return was Sommore.

Finally, during Toccara's weigh-in, Harvey said that she handled herself well during the beach challenge. Harvey then stripped Diamond of his title as team captain and gave it to Toccara.

At the end of the show, a preview was shown for the fifth episode. Apparently Diamond receives an earful from Harvey and starts crying and threatening to sue the show for alleged mistreatment!

Dustin Diamond (2008 Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp Appearance - Episode III)

Episode III - March 27, 2008

Dustin Diamond’s behavior during the third episode of Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp was fairly tame, as he generally kept his attitude in check. Brian Dunkleman, however, was the main focus of this episode because a bachelor party was held for him prior to an upcoming marriage. The focus of this recap is on Diamond’s behavior, so this recap is relatively short, as compared to the previous two episode recaps.

The third episode of Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp began with the show's contestants riding on a bus out to the boot camp designed by drill instructor Harvey Walden. In the opening scene, the contestants made light of Toccara's crazy outburst that occurred during the weigh-in ceremony of the second episode. Diamond mentioned that Toccara's outburst was very stressful for him personally, most likely because Toccara is much stronger than the frail Diamond and could probably twist off his head and spike on the ground like a football if she really wanted to do so.

After arriving at the boot camp, the contestants exited from the rear of the bus and then lined up by team for some instructions from Harvey Walden. Harvey expressed his displeasure with Diamond's performance on this season's show, saying "Some of you have not been really putting out" while looking directly at Diamond.

Next, the contestants were given breakfast in the mess hall. During breakfast, Harvey chastised the team captains, Diamond and Brian Dunkleman, for their teams' messy barracks and made them both arrange their respective barracks in a nice and orderly manner, much like real marines would do.

Next, the contestants were taken to a maze obstacle course. Each team was required to push a military jeep through a maze - three team members pushed the jeep while the fourth team member sat in the jeep and steered (the jeeps remained in neutral during this event). Along the way, the teams had to place cinder blocks and other items into the back of the jeep, making the jeep heavier and more difficult to maneuver.

Diamond's red team won the event because Dunkleman was giving a half-assed effort and was distracted throughout the event while thinking about his impending wedding. Dunkleman's blue team also made a wrong turn at one point, wasting valuable time. After losing the event, Dunkleman was voted the "weakest link" by his team and had to carry big heavy logs across the boot camp.

It apparently took Dunkleman several hours to move the logs. When he returned to his barracks, he was greeted with a bachelor party and lots of cake and other food. After a little while, a stripper showed up for the party. Diamond was very excited, because it was probably the closest he has stood to an attractive semi-naked woman in his entire life (in his personal life, he is known to chase obese women, as I have previously discussed).

Dr. Ian Smith and Stacey Kaiser showed up at the party shortly before the stripper arrived. Diamond was very happy to see Stacey Kaiser and said that he wanted to see her naked. During a subsequent interview, Diamond mentioned that he liked Stacey Kaiser and wanted to do something crude to her (it was difficult to determine what he said, as VH1 bleeped it out).

After the stripper arrived, the apparently intoxicated 47-year-old Erin Moran started acting crazy. Moran spanked the stripper's ass a few times and also freak danced a little bit. A good time was enjoyed by all, and all of the contestants eventually retired to bed.

Everyone was awoken the next morning for more drills. All of the contestants were taken to a field where they did exercises with a bunch of heavy logs. Some of the exercises involved lifting the logs up over their heads as a team and doing sit-ups against the logs. As usual, Diamond couldn't handle the physical exertion and pretended to be injured after what seemed to be a mere few minutes of exercise.

Toccara expressed her displeasure with Diamond's wimpiness, saying "Dustin can't do it because he hurt his shoulder. He has all the same issues every week."

About his supposed injuries, Diamond said, "Something in my back pulled big-time ... The workout was very disappointing because I got injured right away. My shoulder got hurt real bad. I couldn't compete."

A.J. Benza was none too pleased with Diamond's complaints. A.J. said, "Dustin's injury or spasm in his shoulder is bullshit. Dustin's been hurt [in] every single challenge."

During the drill, Harvey became upset with Dunkleman's lack of effort. Dunkleman appeared to be tired and possibly hung over from the previous night's bachelor party and clearly did not want to participate in the event. Shortly after returning back to the camp, Dunkleman left for home because he was so upset with Harvey's treatment of him during the episode.

Next, all of the contestants were weighed in the weigh-in. Diamond topped the scales at 208 lbs, a loss of 1 lb from the previous episode. Although Stacey Kaiser, Dr. Ian Smith, and Harvey Walden were generally pleased that Diamond had lost weight, Harvey wasn't happy with Diamond's lack of effort and phantom injuries during the various drills. The following exchange took place between Harvey and Diamond:

"Harvey: My twist on it ... I expect a lot. You know ... I just don't get it. I mean every workout, you're hurt. First it was your leg, your knee, today [it was] your shoulder. I mean you got Tina [Yothers] said she farted* out a baby six weeks ago. Why can't you push yourself past ... Not to mention, you're the team captain so you have an example to set.

Diamond: That log was tough. I was ...

Harvey: You didn't think it was tough for them?

Diamond: It's hard to pick up a log when you hurt your shoulder.

Harvey: I actually tried to get you to do some little shuttle runs. You gave up on that.

Diamond: Well, the running bounced the shoulders ...

Harvey: Oh Dustin, you gotta be freakin' full of ..."

The exchange was especially funny because Diamond wouldn't even look Harvey in the eye when he was giving his excuses for his lack of effort. It really did seem as though Diamond was lying about being injured at this point.

The episode ended shortly thereafter. A preview for the fourth episode was shown. It looks pretty good - apparently Diamond doesn't even bother to show up for the fourth episode, infuriating the cast!

* I'm not positive that Harvey said "farted," as it was difficult to determine which word he used. If he didn't say "farted," he said something that sounded very similar.

Dustin Diamond (2008 Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp Appearance - Episode II)

Episode II - March 20, 2008

The second episode of Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp began with the show's contestants riding on a bus at 6:50 AM out to the boot camp designed by drill instructor Harvey Walden. In the opening scene, this season's contestants expressed their fears about what was going to transpire as the day unfolded.

Dustin Diamond, the primary focus of this episode recap, was apparently incredibly frightened and mentioned during the bus ride, "I'm probably gonna need my hand held throughout the whole thing." Diamond apparently wishes he had a father figure on the show to protect him from any type of physical exertion, much like his good buddy Dennis Haskins probably used to do on the Saved By The Bell set.

Next, all of the contestants lined up according to their respective teams and were instructed to each deliberate in one of the boot camp trailers and vote for a team captain. Diamond's team was nonchalant about the process - nobody wanted to be the team captain. Eventually Tina Yothers and Willie Aames threw their support behind Diamond, apparently hoping that they would be able to nudge Diamond into giving a better effort than he did during his debacle on the 2007 season of Celebrity Fit Club.

About the team's decision to vote Diamond as captain, Willie Aames said, "I'm a little nervous about Dustin being captain of the team. I saw the footage last year. I was in shock [at Dustin's performance]."

Tina Yothers said, "For me, it was to keep him accountable. For not only all of us, but mainly for himself."

Diamond was elated about being voted team captain, presumably because he must have thought that he had earned his teammates' respect. In an interview, Diamond discussed being captain and began laying the groundwork for a future failure on the show by stating,

"Here's a chance for me to get out there and show ... you know, kind of like the underdog. You were pissed on last time and here's a chance for you to come back and show your own. ... I'll do what is required. But guess what, we're not fucking Marines."

Next, both teams reconvened outside and lined up for Harvey. Harvey asked each team who had been voted captain. When Diamond's team said that he was their captain, Harvey was in total shock. Harvey exclaimed, "[You nominated] his freaking Nazi ass??? You gotta be fucking kidding me. You all are pulling my leg right now."

Next, the contestants were taken to pugil stick battle where one member from each team battled one member from the other team with a pugil stick which standing on a balance beam. Diamond's team (the red) team battled against Brian Dunkleman's team (the blue team). Each team had two men and two women and each team member battles against one team member of the same sex on the opposing team. Diamond was teamed against A.J. Benza and was quickly defeated. Benza knocked Diamond off the balance beam in short order before accidentally falling off the beam himself. Diamond looked completely hapless during the competition and failed to hit A.J. even one time with his pugil stick.

After each team member had battled once, the score was even, 2-2, thereby forcing a tiebreaking match. The blue team chose Dunkelman. Shockingly, under Diamond's leadership, his red team chose Toccara Jones, a woman, to battle in the tiebreaking match.

Regarding the decision to battle, Toccara said, "We had to choose someone to break a tie, and I had just seen Dustin and Will [Aames] fight and they both got their butts kicked. So ok, I can do as good as you can at this point."

Diamond all but admitted that he has less masculinity than his character Screech from saved By The Bell. Regarding the decision to let Toccara battle, Diamond stated, "She's a strong girl and I think I'm the weakest of the red team."

In the tiebreaking match, Toccara was quickly defeated by Dunkelman. After the match, Harvey and A.J. gave Diamond crap for choosing Toccara instead of fighting the battle himself.

After the battle, the red team had to select the weakest link on their team to perform a chore for Harvey. Willie Aames was selected as the weakest link for the second straight episode, and was required to fill a bunch of empty sand bags up with sand and move them to a certain location. The rest of the members of the red team decided to stay and help Willie Aames complete this task.

In the next scene, both teams were shown eating dinner in a mess hall at the boot camp. After the dinner, Harvey instructed both team captains to create a personal training (PT) workout and then perform the workout. Brian Dunkelman quickly created a PT workout by essentially copying one of the workouts that Harvey had previously had them perform. Diamond, on the other hand, took his sweet time reading an exercise book for at least 20 minutes while the blue team performed Dunkelman's workout, causing Harvey to fly into a rage at Diamond's tardiness. Harvey yelled, "Dustin, get your ass out here!"

Harvey then made Diamond do some push-ups outside in the dirt. It appeared as though Diamond was incapable of performing even a single push-up without resting his knees on the ground. Harvey screamed,

"It wasn't an option for your team to work out! Dustin, you're shortchanging them by having a lack of fucking urgency to get the mission accomplished! You can't do it on your terms, Dustin ... it's not your game anymore!"

Diamond's red team was later shown performing the PT workout that Diamond had belatedly created. During the workout Diamond started lagging behind the rest of his teammates as a result of his weak and out-of-shape chunky body. Diamond tried to motivate his teammates, saying "Keep it going guys. Don't let my weakness be a sign of weakness for you guys." Immediately after finishing the workout, Diamond puked on the ground.

The next day, the team members from each team had to walk 2.4 miles up a gradual incline of a mountain while carrying the bags of sand that the red team had filled the previous day. Diamond looked to be incredibly winded during the hike, infuriating his teammate Toccara. In an interview after the event, Toccara said,

"Dustin was having issues with his legs, his arms ... I don't know. But I wanted him to man up and say I'm gonna do this. See, I'm a fighter and I'll get kicked off of Celebrity Fit Club because I will hit him."

After the teams reached the end of the hike, Harvey informed everyone that they were going to run back down the mountain to the boot camp. Erin Moran was having medical issues at this point, presumably because she actually did hurt herself during a pugil match with the much larger Toccara during the previous day's competition. When Diamond learned that Erin Moran was going to sit out the run, Diamond saw his opening to also sit out the run. Diamond started to pretend that his quadriceps muscle was injured and claimed that he was unable to run. Diamond said,

"The job is to run. Now if the only way to get Harvey off your back is to have an injured muscle, then I need to sit this one out. Put me out coach its ... it hurts. My quad is tore up. I'm gonna push hard for you, but I'm not gonna permanently injure myself. Maybe I should get it checked out by the medic."

The Celebrity Fit Club medic did examine Diamond's quadriceps, but was unable to determine whether he was actually injured and agreed that it might be a good idea to let Diamond sit out the run. Harvey was not pleased with Diamond's wimpy excuse, saying "Typical Dustin. I'm not surprised."

After Diamond's whining, Tina Yother's said that Diamond need to "man up" and Willie Aames said that Diamond's excuse was a bunch of "b.s." Diamond didn't seem to care that he let down his teammates, saying "I don't think I need to kill myself to get in shape."

Finally, the various contestants reconvened after the run for the second episode's weigh-in. The final weigh-in included quite a bit of drama, as Toccara exploded when told that she needed to lose more weight. Diamond's weigh-in, on the other hand, was relatively tame. Diamond weighed in at 209 lbs, a loss of 8 lbs from the first weigh-in. Harvey gave Diamond crap for the decision to let Toccara fight Dunkelman in the pugil match. Diamond replied that his decision was the correct one and again referred to himself as the weakest link on his own team.
